Equal parts Animal Crossing and The Sims, you take control of a derelict town on an island and then create Mii inhabitants who will live there. Solve the villagers' problems to increase their happiness score and earn money to buy things that will make them even happier.
It took me a while to warm up to this game, mostly because I was chafing against the complete lack of support for non-cishet villagers. I'm sure that'll come up again, but as I've been playing more and more, and making more and more Miis to live on my island of Greenweed (if that sounds familiar, it should), it's gotten easier for me to get into the flow of things. Just like in real life, I will not be able to prevent my villagers having heterosexual relationships, which is most of the issue I was having. I'm used to The Sims, where I absolutely can and do micromanage everything about my sims; Tomodachi Life is not like that. You can give suggestions on how villagers should proceed in their lives, but the final decision is theirs.
Also, my girlfriend is running a parallel game involving celebrity lookalikes, which she has her own game log written about, which was kind of intimidating for some reason? Anyway, it's much more interesting than anything I'm going to write about here.
At the present time, the flat's entire ground floor is full of girls. Specifically, it's me, Tina Belcher, Linda Belcher, Tammy Larsen, Bella Goth, Betty Newbie, Siouxsie Sioux, and Penny from Inspector Gadget. At first, I thought "let's just have girls on this island", but later I decided, "well, let's put a couple of trans people and some boys on the 1st floor". Since the game is allergic to LGBT+, it misgenders Mickey and Abby, but what're you going to do, right? Well, I suppose install the Gay Mod. Maybe later. (I would imagine the Gay Mod would also misgender them, since no one tends to think about transgender and non-binary people when they make their mods.)
Also, a weird guy showed up in my Streetpass Plaza; kind of a featureless chap who looks more like a meme than a person...
..So, naturally, I sent him to Mii Maker and put him onto Greenweed Island. His name is Patrick Bateman but everyone calls him "Steve" for some reason. Anyway, "Steve's" favourite food is white bread and he owns nothing except for a handbook on hula dancing, which he also sleeps on.
I think it's time for a couple of celebrity sightings. Except, since MiiCharacters.com seems to be having server difficulties right at the moment, I'm going to make them myself and they're going to be washed-up celebrities who haven't been famous for about 20 years.
Yeah. Leno and Letterman. Maybe I should make Conan, too? Some other time. In the short time he's been here, Dave also managed to get a part-time job as a showroom attendant at the Interiors shop. Leno, however, just sits around and does nothing most of the time.
Until something new happens, we'll leave with our recommendation and a group shot. 9/10, would recommend. While the Pros outweigh the Cons in this situation, there are 2 pretty big Cons. First, the complete lack of LGBT+ support, even aro and ace. Second, the speech synthesiser that all the villagers speak with is... pretty old. It was already old by the time the game reached development. Well, no matter. I'm sure that, in amongst various other AI-generated things, Tomodachi Life 2 will also have AI-generated speech. Until next time...
Why not bring me to your island, too? I'm pretty self-sufficient and won't get in your hair about much unless it's a real problem ;)
Please note that this QR code is not compatible with mainline Mii Maker, only the Mii creator in Tomodachi Life. Why? Well, because, apart from appearance and name, there's a lot more data here, like current outfit, character stats, and voice settings. Mii Maker won't know what to do with that, but Tomodachi Life will.
