Ranchrospective
Despite advances in modular home-building technology, this design keeps coming back for an encore.
Bedrooms: 1
Bathrooms: 1
House type: Ranch
Max. occupancy: 1 (2 if the bed got moved over)
I built this particular house a lot in The Sims 2 for GameCube. It was small enough not to exhaust my funds, easy to furnish, fun to play in, and looked pretty okay from the front.
Cindy
A day without exercise is a day without sunshine! Most people find personal fitness routines to be a chore, but sporty Cindy absolutely LIVES for her workout. She's just glad she found space for her weight set in her house's rather stingey backyard.
Astrological sign: Aquarius

One day in high school, Cindy went to try out for the cheer squad, but the days had been mixed up on the posters, and she ended up at tryouts for the women's basketball team instead. It turned out to be the best accident of her life; she made the team and discovered a love of basketball that she hadn't even considered before. While the men's team (incidentally, the Turing High Rockets) had this weird "win or don't come back" vibe to it, her team (the Turing High Astros) didn't feel like that. In her experience, she could tell if the team they were playing against had that vibe by their aggression on the court; aggressive teams were more likely to make mistakes, which invariably caused them to lose. Whereas, everyone on her team wanted to be there. They all enjoyed playing the game which allowed them to sideline the competitive aspect of sports and play for fun. All the girls on the Astros were more than teammates, they became each other's friends, which some local news sports analysts said was "good for cohesion and wins". Indeed, even into her 20s, Cindy is still friends with most of her Astros teammates; she was invited to Taylor's wedding in Pleasantview, went to Brianna & Caleb's housewarming party in Interhogan, got birth announcements from Jenna and Maycin, and even let Vanessa crash on her couch when her car broke down on the edge of town. Cindy tried to continue playing basketball in college, but her college team was nowhere near as close-knit as the Astros had been and she just didn't feel the same cameraderie, so she quit the team after their first game. Cindy doesn't play baskeball anymore, but she still enjoys going for early-morning runs. She's taken to running with her neighbour, Cadence Solfeggio. She also lifts weights occasionally, but has no interest in bodybuilding.
Her life in Sunshine Acres has been fairly uneventful—she and Todd Rodman dated for awhile, but they mutually decided they weren't really interested in each other beyond the occasional bit of smalltalk. She babysits Jenny Meecha every so often when Johnny has to work late, and she acts as gamesmaster for Jenny and her friends' M&M game. She works as a retail clerk at Fairlight, which she doesn't exactly love, but it's better than her last job at BurgerTime, and her boss is pretty good about honouring her PTO requests, even on short notice.
The only place where Cindy is seeing any kind of adversity at all is from her mother, after she told her in passing that she has a major crush on Mimi Landgrabb. She didn't expect to get pushback here, but she decided ultimately, it's her life and if her mom has a problem with some part of it, that's not her business. It may be time for Christine to tell her daughter about the one-night stand she had with Malcolm Landgrabb exactly 40 weeks before she was born... but it's hard for her to admit out loud that Cindy and Mimi are half-sisters. Besides, Mimi loves Tivi Rudis, everyone knows that.
Cindy started out as just a random throwaway sim I was going to use to demonstrate my CC floors, walls, and objects for a screenshot somewhere else on this website, but I started playing with her and I thought, "you know what? Let's actually put her in the story." That's kind of where her last name came from; she was going to showcase a sampling of my Sims 1 CC, hence "Samples". Her first name, "Cindy", just happened because it alliterates.
She isn't inspired by any particular person or idea, and she had no backstory until I wrote it here just now. Her house, on the other hand, I came up with in The Sims 2 for Nintendo GameCube and I've been building it (or some variation on it) ever since. Like I said, Cindy was designed for quick deployment so I could take some screenshots, so I didn't think too hard about her house.
Since Malcolm Landgrabb/Landgraab takes up with the player character's mom at the end of The Sims console version, only to estrange himself from her by the time Bustin' Out happens, I thought it would be a fun idea to suggest that Malcolm was sleeping around while he was married to Holly Alto. One of his dalliances resulted in Cindy. I figure Christine Samples is about 10 years younger than Malcolm, as opposed to Holly who is about 10 years older, and would have been in junior high when Mimi and Dudley were born. I also imagine that Christine receives monthly cheques for §10.000 in unofficial child-support payments.
Finally, with the exception of a possible link between Johnny Meecha and the Besties household, everyone in town was pretty much isolated from each other. So, Cindy links to the Rodman brothers through Todd, the Solfeggio sisters through Cadence, and both of the Meecha's. I had considered that Johnny would match well with Cindy, but I'm more interested in putting Cindy with another woman. Someone I haven't created yet, possibly. She's pansexual, so she would definitely get with Johnny if she wanted, but he isn't her type. They're friends, but not really anything else.
Cindy's outfit is totally original. I painted it on in Creator, except I decided to use Creator's socks and tennis shoes. Her head skin is a recolour of the more common dirty-blonde skin to which I also applied green eyes in GIMP. It's actually 1 of 3 recolours of that stock skin I did at the same time; a brunette, a redhead, and Cindy.
