House

Subliminal Splitlevel

Subliminal Splitlevel
Entering this house, you expect it to have a split-level foundation for some reason. We're still not sure how we did that, but hopefully it'll seal the deal.

Bedrooms: 4
Bathrooms: 2
House type: Tract house
Max. occupancy: 5
This house used to be The Begley's prototype version until it wasn't anymore. Adding rooms and extra floors tends to do that.

Household

Robert Fairisle

Robert
An ordinary man with an ordinary job, Robert lives by three simple rules. No, four. F...five. Eight? No, he condensed 8 and 7 into 6 last week. Uh... well, he lives by rules, but they change occasionally.

Melissa Fairisle

Melissa
Melissa used to be an exterminator, crawling about in crawlspaces, clambering about in attics, spraying roaches, spiders, bedbugs, and such. By sheer exposure, there's no creepy crawly that will move her now, even though she hung up her spray nozzle for good when she got too pregnant to fit into her jumpsuit anymore.

Cyndi Fairisle

Cyndi
The relative youngest of the triplets, Cyndi's passion for picture books has led her to experiment with making her own. Well, "experiment" is such a grown-up word. If you asked her, she'd tell you she's a picture book author. The fact she hasn't made any money on it is inconsequential.

The relative middle-child of the triplets, Tina would prefer to be left alone with her homework. Once that's done, it's off to see how much gaming she can cram into the 2 hours her mom lets her have on the computer.

Story

Melissa was an apprentice exterminator working for her father's pest control company, Big Bob's Debuggers. Robert was an actual debugger working for PisaPy Technologies. Robert first noticed Melissa when Big Bob's was brought in to stop a cockroach infestation in the server room. Since this room was a security area, Melissa needed someone to let her in, and Robert happened to be the nearest person with security clearance. They made a few rather obvious jokes about debugging and computer bugs, enough to make the entire cubicle farm groan, and he elicited her business card when she had finished with the roaches. He claimed he had a "terrible spider problem" on his patio and could use an exterminator to come and take care of it. Fishing a bit, Melissa told him she'd send the boss around and he'd clear it up quick; she caught him, because he asked if she could do it herself. She agreed to do a free consultation on Thursday, at which point she found that the "terrible spider problem" was actually a single barn spider in the corner of the soffit.

This was not the first time Melissa had been propositioned by a client—a pretty blonde girl in a tradesman's uniform tended to attract a lot of attention—but the attraction was not 1-sided, as she also found Robert attractive, unlike all the other grody old guys with beards and cocky young hunks with 5-o'clock shadow. There was something genuine about him that she usually never got from clients... or even any of her past boyfriends. This big, muscular man was wearing business casuals and a pocket protector, and cracking bad jokes about technology. He could have been a linebacker, a construction worker, an actor, any of a number of other things, but he was a tech guy. Oh, the jokes weren't funny to be sure, but neither of them were laughing at the punchlines so much as the fact they knew, deep down, that they had found each other at last.

After dating for about a year, Melissa came with the news that she was pregnant, and Robert was ecstatic. Apparently, he'd been practising dad-jokes in the car en route to and from work, preparing for this. While marriage didn't cross their minds at first, Robert had applied for manager at PisaPy's Sunshine Acres datacentre and was accepted. This meant he would need to relocate to Sunshine Acres in order to get to work without needing to commute 4 hours everyday. Suddenly panicking over random visions of Melissa taking care of their baby while he was staying at some Super C Motel 100 miles away for days at a time, he blurted out, "Will you marry me?" Melissa hadn't been looking forward to working in the admin office (since she was definitely not going to be around noxious fumes with a baby on the way) and accepted. They got married that week, with only their parents and siblings in attendance, and instead of having a honeymoon, they moved to a tract house in Sunshine Acres. About a month later, Melissa was noticing that she was growing quite a bit quicker than normal and went to the doctor to see if she was getting polyhydramnios; performing an ultrasound, the doctor informed her that she was actually getting triplets. As one might imagine, Robert fainted.

Fast-forward to the present day. Robert has changed departments to the cybersecurity division, Melissa is enjoying the domestic life far more than she ever thought she would, and the triplets; Cyndi, Belinda, and Tina; are in 3rd grade at PS-123. Cyndi and Tina are obsessed with the computer, but for different reasons; Cyndi uses it to draw in SquirrelBrush, Tina plays Pixelcrate. Belinda, on the other hand, prefers physical activity to sitting in front of a box and pressing buttons. Cyndi discovered after Writer's Workshop class at the beginning of the year that she could combine her love of reading with SquirrelBrush and has written several picture books—nothing that's been published, of course; but it's the fact of their existence that she's proud of. Frankly, so are her parents. Tina has been working on an extremely intricate building in Pixelcrate for the past 3 months, which started out as a replica of her house but quickly gained other features, such as an underground pool, a diamond mine, a private library, and a backyard with an actual mountain complete with waterfalls and caves. Robert has experience with Pixelcrate insofar as he was a world-renowned modder in his previous life; through her daughter, Melissa has dabbled in the game as well and even travelled to Tina's server to more closely examine her work. Belinda, however, was not celebrated for climbing the tree in their front yard and using it to gain access to the house through the first-floor window. Her mother was afraid she would hurt herself... however, her father took her aside and congratulated her for her athleticism. Apparently, he'd been a tree-climber himself back in his childhood.

While Tina and Belinda are Monsters & Mythos enthusiasts, and all the Fairisle sisters are in Jenny Meecha's class, Jenny only likes playing M&M with Tina. She doesn't like how Belinda makes up her own rules mid-game, doesn't bother telling anyone what they are, and then holding her teammates to them and getting angry when they break one. In general, Belinda doesn't get along with Jenny very well, in particular when she made up a rhyme about Jenny and Kaidence Kottrell ("Jenny and Kaidence, sittin' in a tree... F-U-C—" yes, well, that's quite enough of that). As one might imagine, Belinda got sent to the office for that one. Jenny and Tina are friends, though. The only times Tina enjoys playing outside is when she's LARPing M&M with Jenny. Cyndi has had difficulty maintaining any friendships at PS-123. She's on-again/off-again friends with Keely Kottrell, and only gets along with Mickey Rice (a girl from Calvin's Creek) when Mickey feels like it. Her only real friend, Violet Redmond, moved away at the beginning of 2nd quarter. Because of her picture books, the only people she tends to get along with are the computer teacher, Mrs. Diskin, and the librarians, Mr. Nobel and Mrs. Penn. More so with Mrs. Penn than Mr. Nobel.

Inspiration

I wanted to have at least 1 so-called "normal" family unit in Sunshine Acres, so the Fairisle's are it. They're all named after figures from 1980s music: Robert Casale of Devo, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner, and Belinda Carlisle. Indeed, their family name is a combination of "Fairlight" and "Carlisle". I was feeling particularly domestic and maternal the day I made this household, so I ended up giving Melissa the family I wish I could have: a big strong geeky guy and 3 beautiful triplet daughters. Oh well. I guess, women have been living vicariously through The Sims since 2000, haven't we? Anyway, enough about that.

I mentioned relative ages in the triplets' biographies. Apparently, some women give birth to their multiples naturally, and I figured Melissa was one of them. Belinda came out first, followed by Tina, then Cyndi. Even though they've only got an age discrepancy of about 7 minutes, that's still enough to say Belinda is the oldest and Cyndi is the youngest.

Cyndi's relationships with her classmates are pretty close to my own when I was in grade school—after my best mate moved away to the other side of town, I could still get together with him on the weekends, but I stopped having really any friends in my own grade. My only "friends" were pair of troublemakers who were on-again/off-again with each other, never mind with me. I suppose that's a default setting in some kids: never let anyone get too close.

When I said that Mimi Landgrabb was the only one in town with CC that I didn't make, I forgot about Melissa Fairisle. Her head mesh is from some long-lost Sims 1 CC site, which I got from the Date Exchange in 2011.

There's really not much else to report here.
