Review

The premise is a little thin, but this game ranked amongst my personal favourites in middle school. I would spend so much time playing this that sometimes I would even forget to turn the DS off and would just charge it while I played, then I'd shut the clamshell and do something else, then I'd come back to it later. On long weekends when we didn't have anything planned, my DS would often stay on for that entire time. Before The Urbz, i never considered my DS to be my most prized possession— that particular honour going to my Yamaha PSR290— but I felt like I had a second home in my cargo pocket whenever I left the house with it docked in my DS. I felt like, no matter what happened during school that day, I could sit on the smokers' bench outside the YMCA after school and play until the battery wore down. Plus, I also had, usually, Inspector Gadget (though sometimes Super Mario World) docked in the GBA slot, so I could switch between games if I wanted to.

Relative to more practical matters; there really isn't any measurable difference between the GBA version of this game and the Nintendo DS version, apart from a forgettable location and a couple forgettable mini-games. When it comes to emulation on jailbroken 3DSes, obviously the DS ROM is easier. On Old 3DS, you actually can't emulate The Urbz for GBA because the file is too large for mGBA to load into memory, and you'll need the DS version. On New 3DS, hacked game consoles, and any computer-based emulator, it genuinely doesn't matter.

100/10, would recommend for any player, regardless of age or skill level. Like I said, this was one of my favourites growing up, and I count it as one of the formative experiences of my life.
