What to do if you missed Nintendo 64 Day

September 26 is Nintendo 64 Day.

I'll admit, N64 Day sort of snuck up on me. I was going along just fine, thinking it was Thursday, and then I went to TCRF and looked at the day category and saw "Super Mario 64" and realised "oh shit, it's Nintendo 64 Day, isn't it?" Plus, it's only one day out of 365 and we've all got so many appointments and school projects and holidays and stuff going on that it's easy to lose track of things that don't come pre-printed on the calendar. Or, maybe you didn't know it was N64 Day yesterday and this is the first you're hearing of it. Whatever the case may be, there's no reason for despair! The Nintendo 64 was not released to all North American markets until December 1996. Some smaller towns wouldn't get it in stock until Q1 1997. Furthermore, the N64's greatest hits were all released within a 5-year span of time from the official hardware release date, so you still have quite a few opportunities to celebrate the Nintendo 64.

If your favourite game wasn't listed here, check out Wikipedia's List of Nintendo 64 games to see when its anniversary is. Otherwise, games were being released for the Nintendo 64 at a rate of at least 3 a month for 5 straight years; so, really, any given day qualifies as Nintendo 64 Day. Just remember, no game anniversary is good enough to pay Nintendo for software as a service. If you can't buy aftermarket, media preservation is there for you.
