It's okay to specialise in one game at a time, at least until you get bored of it. Ruts happen when your current game selection no longer sparks joy and inspiration. Get out of ruts by playing a selection of different games, even if you've never played them before.
Failure happens a lot. It doesn't matter who you are, you'll fail more often than you'll succeed in videogames. This is not a commentary on your performance, it's a fact of life.
If the game is making you frustrated to the point of personal injury or property destruction, you must stop playing it. At once. You are not going to get over whatever is bothering you while it is actively bothering you. If the game consistently frustrates you, it's time to find a different game. The most basic requirement of a game is that it needs to be fun. If it is not, then it's a chore and you may as well be doing the hoovering at that point.
Just because a game starts up quick and has instant gratification does not mean that you will enjoy yourself playing it.
Doom was novel once. It was even fun. All things lose their lustre if handled too often. The desire to make a game that was not Doom out of the GZDoom engine was an indication of a need not being fulfilled, and there is no amount of modding you can do to return the fun to a game that has become dull. Moreover, it doesn't matter what platform you play Doom on, it's still Doom.
This is not YouTube and you are not playing for an audience. This is not Twitch and you are not playing for a chatroom. Do not play as though you are being watched.
Nintendo games are not being domineering by suggesting that you stop for a while. Set down the 3DS when your hands start to go tingly. The game will still be there. Likewise, if you begin to fidget in your seat because it's uncomfortable, it's time to get up. Walk around. Get some coffee. Take the rubbish out. As I said, the game will not get up and walk away while you're out of the room.
