My downstairs neighbour is marathoning all the Bob's Burgers halloween specials 👨‍🏻🍔🎃 It's not like I'm eavesdropping or anything, it's just that Jon Benjamin and Kristen Schaal have very distinctive voices (which is good because on-camera without a character voice, Kristen is just a generic white girl. Sort of the female version of Jeff McCarthy)

I've been neglecting to update my walk journal, haven't I? Oh well, we had 2 days there of 85+°F temperatures so I didn't go out. Also, this morning it was raining so hard it was coming over the gutters, and I've mislaid my umbrella. So, there's not much to talk about there, anyway.

Talking to any zillennial about how voting for a 3rd party candidate is the same as not voting at all and will have the same effect because republicans always vote and they only vote for republicans:
talking to a brick wall.

THIS IS THE BEST COFFEE IVE EVER TASTED HOLY SHIT. if you live in nebraska, get your ass down the store and get some ah-ro-ma autumn harvest then drink that while eating something with cinnamon in it. youre welcome.

oh HELL YES, we're so back!

Gotta love how you can find a webpage called "10 highly underrated games for the Nintendo 64" and the first 3 entries are Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, and Perfect Dark. Tell me you've never played an N64 game without saying "i've never played an N64 game". Found a site one time that listed Rayman under N64 games—they said something like "it was released on PS1 so it probably had an N64 port, as was common at the time". And, no, this was not a kid's site either, it was a big game reviewing site with corporate sponsors and inline adverts. Tell me you've never looked at Mobygames without saying "I've never been to Mobygames".

I never thought i would say this... but i miss my wii so much. The only reason I had to stop using her altogether was I didnt have the HDMI adapter, so when i switched from CRT to LED in 2018 there was so much signal latency that buttonpresses were getting lost. I wouldnt need to hack a Wii U if i could just find a Wii HDMI adapter 😭

2024 Oct 26: 09:22
I've had the "inside the pirate ship" song from Wind Waker stuck in my head for hours now....

I really don't think the "fade-away" Kokiri in Ocarina of Time was anything more than optimisation for the Nintendo 64 hardware. Like, we know now that the game was being made at least compatible with the 64DD, so it's possible that EAD were planning on using memory enhancements to make certain things about the game work. When you think about it, Kokiri Forest is the single-most heavily populated area in the game; as in, hardly any of them are clones of each other. Plus, there's very sparse terrain in the area, certainly nothing EAD could use to reasonably cull geometry behind. Hyrule Castle Town has technically more population, but the camera there rotates on a fixed pivot in the centre of the map, so most of the characters don't need to display most of the time because there's nowhere you can stand to observe the entire area all at once. Gerudo Fortress Grounds has a relatively high population, but only 2 unique models, and only 3 characters animating at any given time. All things considered, I think they had to cull the Kokiri while they were still in the player's FOV, so Miyamoto just added that bit of optimisation to the game's canon.

If i see one more cryptid/creepypasta/SCP-type thing generated by an AI process, i'm going to become the Joker. The only thing "spooky" around here is gonna be your ghost when I get my hands on you for using DALL-E to eat a whole glacier and barf up some content.

you can make some bomb ass cookies if you use a spice cake mix. Dont put in water or milk, just the eggs and oil and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract (i dont care what tumblr told you, use 1/2 tsp or use none). Then use a normal spoon to drop the batter into little piles onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You can do it without the parchment if you want crispier edges. Anyway, bake that shit in a 350°F oven for 12 mins, let stand for 7, and prepare for a taste sensation. Happy Hallo-week. 🎃🎃🎃🎃

Pro-tip for people who hate cereal dust: use a sieve to sift the dust out from a mostly-empty box of cereal. Just pour the cereal into the sieve and swish it back and forth like you're panning for gold. The dust will fall out the mesh leaving only cereal behind. I forgot to do that just now and as a consequence of that i'm having a bowl of Rice Krispie dust for breakfast.

What is with wikipedia's obsession with blonde girls on the main page lately? Lady Gaga, Meghan Trainor, now Ashley Tisdale. Ok yeah Robert Downey Jr who is decidedly not a blonde girl was on the main page in there too.

2024 Oct 22: 02:53
Peanut butter sandwich: yes. Bologna sandwich: yes. Grilled cheese sandwich: no, by reason of getting the fingers greasy. Hamburger: yes, but only if the condiments don't drip, the bun isn't greasy, and the assemblage isn't so tall that you can't hold it in one hand. Pop-tart: doesn't meet the minimum requirement for the test. Hotdog: yes, but with the same restrictions as the hamburger. Burritos and wraps: yes, by reason of tortillas being a form of flatbread. Pizza: you figure it out.

2024 Oct 22: 02:40
i dont know what the big deal is with the whole "is it a sandwich" debate? cos like its an easy test. the minimum requirement is that it is some kind of food contained by bread. at that point, is the food feasibly eaten with one hand without getting the fingers messy, without the aid of a wrapper of any kind? if yes, sandwich. if no, not a sandwich. and yes i realise this immediately excludes several foods currently called "sandwiches". simply, if you can't eat it whilst using your other hand for an unrelated task, then you can't play cards, ergo you cant invoke the name of John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich.

2024 Oct 21: 03:13
apart from underscoring what donald trungus took from us when he eliminated all those safety regulations, all these product recalls are exposing the kind of so-called "free choices" we have under consumerist capitalism. it's 2 name brands owned by competing huge multinational corporations that are just 1 bad quarter away from merger, and 64 generic brands that are all made by the same company. yeah. some choice. you can have the expensive name brand, the more expensive name brand, or one of these generic brands that are very likely to have been made without union oversight, possibly with prison slaves, and has a 1-in-10 chance of killing you.

2024 Oct 21: 00:06
I am going to try to not be controversial today. Well... i have a sort of controversial take on halloween media: when it comes to stuff to watch on the week leading up to halloween, i'll leave the monster movies and murder porn to others. personally i prefer old cartoons, like from the 1962-2016 period of time. Scooby Doo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, random halloween specials from like Ed Edd n Eddy and Garfield and stuff, and of course the Great Pumpkin. there's enough queerfolk watching Saw and Chucky and that kind of thing on hallo-week, i dont need to. okay NOW i'm going to be noncontroversial today.

2024 Oct 20: 12:23
now that cohost has been readonly for about a month, i realised i never reposted my looney tunes show yaoi fanfic after deleting that post in february. i had planned on putting it back up in chapters, but of course i didnt do that. i really dont feel like making an ao3 account so... i guess i wont ever repost it. i isnt wildly ooc for bugs and daffy, they dont even break character until the last chapter, but... well, it's yaoi. so... yeah.

2024 Oct 20: 06:17
welp i hit post limit on my neocities dash, so it looks like im gonna be dumping my thoughts here for a while.

2024 Oct 17: 00:01
This is so fucking stupid. Hell world. Evil timeline. Bad ending. The whole internet is getting swallowed up by so-called "AI" imitation machines. So many investors have sunk billions of dollars into this technology that, when it fails, it's poised to bankrupt 3/4 of the world's largest corporations. Neocities is testing an AI-based autocorrect system for the code editor and it doesn't look like there's anything that can be done to stop it; Google's search engine is almost 100% AI based now and giving answers to basic questions that are completely absurd; documentaries on PBS are being made with AI art and AI-generated speech synthesisers; and the answer to every problem in the year 5785 is "just use ChatGPT". It really takes all the mystery out of life when you learn that the answer to everything evil and despicable in the world is "consumerist capitalism". These giant corporations are flailing desperately, trying to keep AI relevant in the consumer age; technology that can't be trusted to do anything except swallow glaciers whole to come up with "the square root of 3,750,000 is Bibby, buy it now from Temu". And we're supposed to just sit back and let it happen.

AI Sucks, and if you disagree, You Suck Too.

One place where Windows is better than Linux is sound. Windows system events make sound. Admittedly, Windows 7-11 dont make as much sound as 98, Me, and XP did, but everything about Linux is visual. Also, Xfce seems to have been designed to exclude keyboard shortcuts. On Windows, I can close files with ALT/F/X, folders with ALT/F/C, and (on Win7 at least) turn off the computer with Win/Up/Right/Down/Enter. XP was better in this way; Windows/U/U would turn off the computer. Linux? Silent and mouse-driven. I have actually very bad fine motor skills most of the time and I appreciated Windows's ability to respond to the keyboard, rather than waiting for me to accidentally click everything within a 10-pixel radius of a button.

2024 Oct 13: 17:29
even though i didnt have much to talk about during my walk journal, this really is the time of the year i love walking in. cold mornings, frosty surfaces, seeing your breath, borderline frigid northerly breezes, leaves falling off the trees in realtime. fall is the reason i signed up for this planet in the first place!

2024 Oct 13: 05:16
damn you cant go ANYWHERE on the internet without being commodified! holy shit, i looked at the uBO panel on a cooking show site i like to go to and 115 blocked trackers! ive only ever seen THAT MANY blocked trackers on tumblr ffs. and what, i ask you, were most of those blocked connections for? analytics. targeted advertising. user profiling. if i had not been using firefox and ublock origin, i would have been swarmed by mosquitoes until i was sucked dry. I WEEP for everyone who doesn't have the wherewithal to switch to firefox after chrome axed support for all ad-blocking, YOU ARE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. You are being auctioned off like a prize cow, and the bidders are tech billionaires. You are nothing but a commodity to be bought and traded in realtime every minute of every day. You're just a pair of eyes to put products in front of. THIS is what the internet has become. This is what WE HAVE ALLOWED the internet to become.

2024 Oct 12: 21:10
Yom Kippur 5785 is in the can. I ate my wonderful break-fast casserole (not traditional ashkenazi in the least but it tasted good) and I can be assured of being able to eat tomorrow. All my sisters without food security are still in my thoughts though. I hope you can eat something absolutely delectable tomorrow and for all time thereafter.

2024 Oct 11: 18:16
Yom kippur always sneaks up on me... my roommate isn't Jewish, so yeah. No one around to remind me. I think i need to set my notifications for further out next year, like not "day of event". More like "1 week before" and "1 month before".

2024 Oct 11: 07:13
whoa wait hold up. microsoft remade SNES Doom? and someone made a cartridge out of it?

2024 Oct 10: 13:46
hey. shh dont cry. us dept of justice might order the breakup of google. yes just like the bell system in the '80s.

2024 Oct 10: 05:38
I have way too many links to the Internet Archive scattered around my website to disable them all. Apart from the homepage, the highest concentration per character is definitely the Resources page, so I've commented out all the Archive links. In general, if a link has the Archive Tictac next to it, do not follow it. I really hope whoever hacked the Archive has been paid handsomely enough by Penguin-RandomHouse that they can afford to hack their employer next.

2024 Oct 10: 05:26
If my Go Somewhere Else button array looks a little cockeyed at the moment, it's because some corporate feudal stool pigeon broke the Internet Archive's encryption and it's not safe to go there right now.

2024 Oct 9: 15:37
So apparently there's a tornado barreling toward the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Florida? Hell world. Like, to say NOTHING of Milton itself which hasn't even MADE landfall yet. We havent even got through saying mi shebeirach for Appalachia yet and now this??!

2024 Oct 9: 12:00
I honestly didnt know that you could get "large and dangerous tornadoes" during a hurricane. I honestly thought the hurricane moved so fast that it could only spin up tubae without being able to actually drop tornadoes. Of course, there was that big-ass thunderstorm complex that Milton pushed onshore hours before he got there. This is a whacked out timeline right here... we get century storms every year and they're more destructive than anything the meteorologists from the 1910s could have imagined would possibly exist on Earth. The question is not "Is human-caused climate change real?", the question NOW is "now that climate change has happened, what can we do about it?" Of course, the bougie answer is "pretend nothing is happening and carry on as normal".

2024 Oct 8: 17:44
At about 06:45 this morning, this site got 100k views. That's amazing. That's 99,095 more views than I thought i would get on here when i started the site. Thank you all so much, this means a lot to me 😭😭😭😭

2024 Oct 8: 15:18
Welp. my regular people hours are gone again. Fell asleep at 06:45, woke up at 14:13. regular hours only lasted just over a week, thats gotta be some kind of new record

1 year. It's been 1 year solid of Israeli colonisers using American weapons to wipe out the Palestinian people. The destruction is so profound, you can see it from low-Earth orbit. And why? Why is this happening at all? 3 reasons. 1) British Petroleum thinks there might be a source of natural gas in Palestinian territory. 2) Israel was in the perfect position to seize the entire Levant for itself and American evangelists decided to incorporate this into Second Coming prophecies. And, lest we forget, 3) the world's largest defence contractors are making more money than they could ever have made in peacetime. Phil Johnson's 3rd and 4th yachts have been financed by the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, and the media is sugaring it with the "Hamas as a Terrorist Organisation" fallacy, and trickling it down our throats in between thinly-veilled fascist propaganda designed to increase voter apathy. I'm not falling for it. Are you on tumblr? Find one of the donation masterposts and either donate to something or reblog the post. Are you American? Don't fall for the propaganda: treat anyone trying to convince you that voting is pointless as a fascist trying to install an authoritarian dictatorship. Understand that the holocaust in Palestine is not something that you can simply vote away. Your direct action, donating to Palestinian fundraisers, raising awareness of Western control, and inundating your elected officials with letters demanding the immediate cessation of aid for Israel will go furlongs ahead of what can be done with a single vote.

Hmm. Floodgap's Gopher proxy appears to be down... Of course, the Floodgap staff consists of all of 1 guy, so don't get discouraged. It'll be back eventually.

2024 Oct 6: 12:32
I dont know what the big deal is with tone indicators. i guess terminally online people will find fault with anything the next generation develops to help them. like yeah, i remember having to divine a commentator's intent by telepathy too and you cant tell me that its not easier to have "/jk" "/s" and "/srs" at the end of stuff now. dang. aint that what boomers have been using emoji for since 2011 anyway?

2024 Oct 5: 17:57
I didnt want to harsh the mellow over on tumblr about suppermariobroth's HQ version of the Mario Rap. But Shuki Levy is an Israeli coloniser and Haim Saban operates a pro-Zionist PAC for the US democratic party. That doesnt just taint the Super Show, it also taints He-Man, the original She-Ra, Inspector Gadget, the Power Rangers, and Digimon. The only possible loophole here is that Levy lives in the US now and doesnt talk about politics; and Saban didnt actually write any of the music he was credited for.

2024 Oct 5: 16:51
if ever there was someone who deserved to randomly get $15.000 in the post one day, it's Evan-Amos from Wikimedia. With any luck at all, the software is going to outlive all the hardware to the point there won't be ANY surviving Atari 2600's or SNS-101's. but we'll have Evan-Amos' UHD CC0 photos of all the game consoles ever made (with 1 or 2 exceptions) so we can see what previous generations thought "videogames" were.

2024 Oct 5: 14:56
As much as I like the mid-'80s ASCII terminal look for this iframe, I think i need something a little more modern. We'll start by emboldening the most recent post.

2024 Oct 5: 14:52
I have to wait another 10 mins to go to the store so i can be there during the football game. Not because i like football and theyll be playing it over the muzak speakers (which they will) but because there wont be anyone else there who doesnt have to be there. So like just the staff and any zillennials who dont care about football. Anyone else will just be an in-and-out because they ran out of beer or something.

Fartomatt is trying to be like his idol, Elon Musk. Except that the names "Matt Mullenweg" and "WordPress" don't carry nearly as much buying power as any of Elon's shit. Elon is teflon, while Matt is more like that time Commander Riker tried to scramble an egg in series 2 of TNG.

2024 Oct 3: 18:47
I'm about 34 pages into the 98 page complaint and so far, WPE has absolutely echoed down to the last detail what Matt did to @predesterone. The threats, the extortion, the blocked access, the scorched-earth banning, the wholly futile attempts at damage control, the smug tweets of superiority. Except this time he decided to go after a company with the resources to sue him--and suing him they are! 😆

2024 Oct 3: 18:33
Matt Mulletwig is in TROUBLE 🤡🤡🤡🤡

2024 Oct 3: 16:37
Wow.... 113 followers and almost 100k views. I'm just... i... a bit overwhelmed. Thank you all. Thank you 💖

2024 Oct 3: 15:31
Ok well i think i just figured out where my next new song is coming from.

2024 Oct 3: 07:50
Shanah tovah! Today is the first whole day of 5785! Its gonna take a while for me to remember to stop signing all my drawings "Tina '84". Not that there have been many, but you get it.

2024 Oct 2: 14:57
No sooner did I say "oh i havent seen Milton in days" did he show up again and fall asleep on my painting shelf. My painting shelf is called that because that's where i set my easel when i paint (which i havent done lately because i was waiting for the barn spider to die in november so I wouldnt disturb her web because, A, thats mean and B, i dont want her to rebuild her web someplace more inconvenient for me...like in the door track)

2024 Oct 2: 11:01
There's a tiny little bird on my deck... he's hopping about looking for bugs on the rails, and he tapped on my painting shelf a couple times thinking it might be made of wood. It's metal, so he just got a lot of noise for his trouble. Oh, why you— a bluejay scared him off. Still, that's more bird activity than the deck's seen since the doves left. There's a squirrel I named Milton (you know, Milton Squirrel?) who comes by occasionally to chatter at stuff. He used to jump down from the roof, but they cut his tree down after the thunderstorm 2 months ago. So, now he just climbs up the pylon. I haven't seen Milton since I put Davy Jones, my plastic skeleton, out there for halloween.

2024 Oct 2: 10:56
Ooofff, the list of invidious instances is looking a little thin these days...

2024 Oct 1: 10:22
Nintendo made over $10B in FY 2024, jettisoned Charles Martinet, shut down at least 2 FOSS projects, and they expect me to buy their shit? No. Fuck all that. WiiU jailbreak time.

2024 Oct 1: 10:02
i feel really lucky that sublingual oestradiol tabs taste sugary. they could have tasted the way windex smells but they don't. the slightly gritty texture reminds me of the time i tried to dissolve a packet of stevia in a cup of room temperature coffee. i dont really want to get into that too much because the day itself sucked major ass, but like good on the people who make oestradiol for not making it taste like robitussin or something.

2024 Oct 1: 09:25
Ok. Apparently roland corporation DID put a jaw harp into the sc-88. it's under percussives and is called "Boeeeen" or something like that. Oh well, the cover of the red green show theme is finished and im not going to open it again just to change that. Also the steel acoustic guitars in the sc-88 continue to sound complete shite so theres that as well.

2024 Oct 1: 08:51
I miss trick or treating. I havent been trick or treating since i was 16. I went as Inspector Gadget—i only went as Gadget those last few years. The previous year I stuck a rubber zombie hand with a glove on it to the end of a PVC pipe so I could have the extendo-arm. I remember inventing a way to make a retractable extendo-arm with a gripping hand but i didnt have any of the equipment necessary to make that happen. I focused on the gloves that next year. I put a laser pointer, a pen-shaped flashlight, and a telescoping antenna for a cordless landline phone into my left-hand glove and nothing into my right because I still needed to do stuff with my hand. I also had a toy magnifying glass suspended from a bent wire coat hanger that I attached to my hat, but that just got in the way and i left it in B's car. Did quite a lot of sweating that night. Would you believe that a trench coat, work gloves, blue jeans, and homburg hat really hold in your body heat quite well? They do.

October the First. It's officially Halloween (even though the people who love fun have already been celebrating it for a month and will continue celebrating it until hanukkah. after all why not? christmas gets 6 months, halloween is lucky to get a week.) 🎃🍂👻🍁🪦✨🎃
