back on 9 february, i said i got my ass handed to me in Earthbound. It's taken me this long to re-open that file on my 3ds and play it again. i've been playing it on my computer-based emulators, but not much mostly because of Pokemon. i seemed to recall wasting all my PP on a group of 6 attack slugs and not noticing titanic ant's black antoid wingmen resupplying his health. this time i used no psi abilities at all (except for Lifeup a which i did 1 time because i was running out of hamburgers) and started out with PSI Rockin a, killing the black antoids and i just kept using psi offence until i was out of PP. after that, it was a trivial matter to defeat titanic ant because he kept using PSI magnet despite the fact i had no PP left. The interesting thing is, despite the fact it seemed hard to beat titanic ant, eventually he's gonna get eclipsed by even harder enemies that make him look easy by comparison.

The new album's final title is Midnight in the Garden of Grant & Enya, not just because the coverart's been done. I'd thought about naming it after track 8, "Ray Bradbury was Right about Everything", but in the intervening time I found another record by that title by a different composer. Being a play on "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", I figure there are loads of other parodies on that title, and "Grant & Enya" specifically refer to Grant Kirkhope and Enya Orinoco Flow because of the Proteus/2 bathroom pong and the Roland D50, so it's safer. I'll release it on 4 July, because when else would you release a record about a christofascist dicatatorship, right?

If you've been watching or reading or playing the media for years and you still feel like you don't know the character well enough to come up with your own ideas, that's a failure of your imagination. How much more is it going to take for you to simply forego writing at all and just have ChatGPT do it for you? Of course, I say that as though i wasn't drawing random cartoon characters as Pokémon Trainers back in the 2019-2021 period of time. I drew Phineas Flynn, Arnold Shortman, Stan Marsh, and late '70s Mark Mothersbaugh in the style of Fairly OddParents. Others I can't remember right now. Hell, for a while, I was even writing a Phineas & Ferb / Pokémon Go crossover fic.

Apparently the thing that made SNES Doom run badly on Snes9x (you know, apart from the fact it's SNES Doom) is that Snes9x wasn't reading the opcodes properly. Duh, everyone knows this, Randy Linden made the whole source code open-source in 2020. But, like, I wonder if this classifies as a trade secret? Possibly since there wasn't any official documentation written for Super FX 2 programming, probably not. But I know that emulator devs try to cleanroom as much as possible these days so Nintendo or whoever can't sue them. That's why when the Gigaleak had GameCube documents in it, Dolphin tried to put as much distance between their project and the Gigaleak as possible. So, if Randy, as an officially-sanctioned programmer working for a Nintendo 3rd-party, came with heretofore trade secret information that had been revealed to him the procedure of creating a game that would run the Super FX chip, would that taint the information such that Snes9x would have to stick their fingers in their ears and chant "CLEAN ROOM LA LA LA, CLEAN ROOM LA LA LA"?

I guess i could run SNES Doom on the most recent version of Snes9x and find out. Or I could also not do that so I don't lapse back into my Doom addiction. Anyway, zsnes, Bsnes, and Higan always ran it fine and they didn't have access to potentially NDA-breaking data.

Dolphin really is a sight to behold these days. The start percentage is now at 100% of all Wii and GameCube games, most GameCube games can run either perfectly or with forgiveable issues that don't otherwise break the game, and it can even exceed 60 FPS in some cases. Plus, you don't even need to upgrade from Windows 10 1902 to run it (back when you could still access services.msc during the days when a Copilot was the guy sitting next to you in the aeroplane cockpit and AI referred to videogame NPC logic).
Having said that, I still feel like Wii and Wii U jailbreaking is the best way to go here. It's easier to connect up the sensor bar for a start, and all games can run at 100%, since it's the hardware they were designed for.

How is it that i keep updating my site at palindromic times of the day?
Anyway, it turns out, upon closer inspection, that the SD card that I'm including with the 2DS is only half-full. But is there any reason why you should be able to play Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire on the same console? It's not as clear-cut as the difference between Pokemon Red and Pokemon FireRed. At least I can put in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, but what else can I put in? I have space for at least 6 more games (while still allowing enough space for GM9 to generate a NAND backup).

I hate to say it... but my bandwidth use has really dropped to absolute minimum now that I've deleted my gallery directory. Between the time I disabled the directory and brought it back briefly last month, I kept renaming the directory to something stupid, but I figure Neocities is giving the AI scrapers root directory access, so any preventative measures on my part wouldn't have made any difference. Now that the pictures are gone, my bandwidth use has dropped below 40 MB for the first time in who even cares how long.

Why am I still putting up with this fuckass web host?

The salvage yard guy says he'll buy That '90s Car off me for $307, so that's pretty much eliminated the New Used Car Diagnostic Fund. I know that still comes to about $90 below where I wanted to get, but it'll do. Having driven the SUV now, I don't anticipate there being anything so very wrong with it that it would need more than $300 to repair in the first place, so that means we'll actually have money left over from before! Just in case the salvage guy flakes out on me, I'm going to keep the fund open on Ko-fi until Monday. Also, even though I don't need to fundraise anything anymore, I do still like getting money from you guys 🩷🩷🩷 It helps me keep going between gigs. So, thanks everyone!

even though the switch 2 probably isn't going to be any more hackable than the switch 1 was, it's not going to stop the first 25 people who got their hands on one taking it apart and having a look at how it works under the bonnet. depending on how different from the switch 1 the firmware is, it may be possible to examine how the gamecube emulator works and either make injections possible or even figure out what prevents the switch 1 from running gcn games. i guess on some level it's good that all technology is basically interchangeable these days.

The models have already been trained on my drawings but it all got buried under more interesting art styles. No one's gonna want to buy into a shit-ass crypto scheme with "Darn Those Socks" on it when there's 10 thousand busty manga girls to choose from instead. The only drawing of mine that comes anywhere close to something that might be useful for generative AI to imitate is fen2.jpg, but even this was based on someone else's work.

it turns out there was nothing wrong with the 2DS's SNES emulator at all, i was just using a bad rip of super castlevania 4. oh snap, this means no-intro's rip of this rom is bad! to save time, i used the rom from my datahoard disk instead of my personal rom that ive been playing for the past 10 years. all the roms on my datahoard (2020-present) came from no-intro! whereas the 2nd acquisition phase (2013-2015) happened on the now defunct site, doperoms.

It turns out the new car has some odd quirks that weren't disclosed to me. First, it apparently has a built-in security system, which I noticed quite by chance when it activated unexpectedly last evening and I had to ring mum to ring K to ask what the hell was going on. Then it turned itself off. According to the Nissan website, this feature can be deactivated only by cutting power to the horn. Also, when I went downstairs to figure out why the ceiling light kept turning itself on, I discovered it was because the car was continuously unlocking itself. It was behaving as though someone were in the cabin, repeatedly pressing the "door unlock" switch. Manually actuating the locks seems to have put a temporary stop to this. The sedan had automatic locks too, but they were mechanical. It was a solenoid mechanism that would simply not work at all if there was a fault in the line; but there's a good deal more computer control in this car. The only noteworthy quirk that the sedan had was it would occasionally grab the key and refuse to let go. At first, I thought it was weather-dependent, but eventually I realised it was most likely the result of an integer overflow in the onboard computer (that series of cars all ran on MOS 6502's; interestingly, the sports-car variant used Z80's). Call me old-fashioned if you want, but I would very much like it if cars had fewer to no computers in them.
