We've got a problem... I played 3DS Smash Bros yesterday and I enjoyed it. Kinda makes me wonder why the 3DS circle pad needed a silicone grip at all? (mine fell off ages ago and I haven't had a problem)

Trump's inauguration happening on Martin Luther King Day allowed Wikipedia's homepage to look extra-special passive aggressively political (archived with SingleFile for Firefox 134)

Should I upgrade from Linux Mint 21 to Mint 22? I'm a refugee of Windows 7; I lived through the Windows 8 Automatic Upgrade of 2014 and the Windows 10 Automatic Upgrade of 2018 by not connecting to the internet for a week in both cases. We all know how much of a drag Win8 was and how much monitoring Win10 did, and I guess I'm still a little wary of my operating system telling me there's a new version of it available. I'm the girl who still runs Android 9 because she discovered how to put off the firmware updates by dismissing the prompt by ducking into and out of the Settings menu. My phone has been begging to be updated since 2020 and it hasn't affected my ability to use it. And, like, I know that Linux Mint isn't likely to begin monitoring my computer if I upgrade but... why mess with a good thing? Mint 21 was the best thing to happen to me since Windows 7. It works way better than Windows 10 ever did, it doesn't monitor my usage for things it can censor or profit from, hardly any malware affects it, and I can watch ad-free downloadable YouTube on Freetube. I guess I'm leaning toward staying with Mint 21.

I discovered today that you can go fishing and bug-hunting in Tortimer Island tours and I am LIVING. Yeah I got 0 points, I'm not here for your stupid gardening game, Tortimer; I'm a woman of SCIENCE! I am here to catch bugs and fish for Mr. Blathers and NO other reason. So I only get 5 minutes for my field study, who cares? Leilani keeps booking me for tours, so I'm gonna keep borrowing Lloid's nets tyvm.

Kristen Schaal certainly has made a career out of sounding like a little kid, huh? All at the same time for about 2 years there, she was the voice of Mabel Pines, Louise Belcher, and Sarah Lynn. As a former voice actor, I'm almost more jealous of Kristen than of Marc Elliot. Who? Marc was Disney's "Coming soon to own on videocassette" announcer. I think they replaced him in around 2005. Personally, my career goal was to be the National Weather Service's weather radio voice. What AI was SUPPOSED to do was make it easier for automated systems to concatenate phonemes and whole words so voice-over artists could get paid for recording and the console replacement system would still be able to pronounce names properly. It was SUPPOSED to make concatenative synthesis easier. Instead, deep-learning discovered how to duplicate voices through acoustic modelling and now talent agencies get rich selling their clients' portfolios to Amazon and Google for duplication. To be fair, though; Kristen and Marc got illicitly duplicated too. Basically, at this point, everyone's voices have been duplicated. Everyone. Not just voice actors and TV personalities, but everyone who has ever talked into a smartphone or a home assistant.

I swapped out my 3DS's SD card for a 32 GB model today. Now I can install Pokémon and DKCR3D and all type of huge games and not need to worry about storage space! :D tbph my 16 GB one had been feeling kinda cramped for a while, and installing Smash really didn't help. Plus, now I can reformat the old one and put it into my dictaphone now so I can put ALL of my playlists onto it. It's a good day in file storage land I must say.

When one of my computers slows down
Spongebob shouts Come on Windows, start moving! Patrick says, It's okay Linux, you start running when you want to.

it's too bad. "Luigi" doesn't mean Mario's brother anymore, now it means Luigi Mangione. i wonder if nintendo will decide it's bad for publicity and issue a cease-and-desist on the guy's name. i mean, some of the shit that company has tried to pull has made LESS sense, like trying to patent "it's on like donkey kong" and filing patents on basic game mechanics.

The reason I'm not writing in my game log is that I'm still playing New Leaf and SMAS+W. However, I've just started a new file in EarthBound, so that will probably end up on the page pretty soon.

NOTICE
There's some sort of crypto token bot keelhauling Neocities-hosted sites for a new-age NFT minting scheme or something. Anyway, until this dies down, I've disabled my gallery directory. This might affect some pictures posted to blog entries and it will break all links to gallery pages. Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is just the way the new web works.

Remember: "Leeb, Leefuh, Lurve" is Simlish for "Duplicate, Extricate, Emulate". The Sims 4 itself wants you to pirate it.

ok, delayed reaction. I finally cried over Data's scene with Dr. McCoy in "Encounter at Farpoint". I was listening to Dennis McCarthy's soundtrack album to that episode and promptly lost it halfway through track 9. it wouldnt have been so bad if i didnt have most of a peanut butter sandwich in my mouth at the time. anyway, i better not listen to the Fraggle Rock soundtrack next or we gonna have the same problem with the opening notes of track 2.

I am going to say this only one time. I am going to ignore everything happening in the United States government from now until the end of time. I never wanted to kill myself more than the 2017-2020 period of time and, if I start talking about politics in even the grossest possible sense, I am going to end up right back there, on my lowest day in 2018, when I actually put on my shoes and grabbed my keys so I could walk out the door and drive to the parking garage from whose top deck I was going to splatter myself against the pavement. I must focus on matters that I am able to control, rather than expend effort preaching at an empty room about something no one else can control either. If Trump launches nukes at Canada, I will be the last one to know. If Israel takes over the entire Sinai peninsula, I won't even hear about it. If the government shuts down again, it'll never reach me. If this is complacency, I don't care. All I know is that I don't want to die, and talking about politics will kill me.

I had my first surreal Animal Crossing New Leaf dream last night! I was the manager of a Sims-style apartment/dormitory type place in a part of my hometown that was procedurally-generated. If you went beyond a certain point, object placement made no sense, and you couldn't look at anything squarely on because it was being projected stereoscopically and it would distort against the parallax barrier. I wanted to Streetpass with someone but the game needed to have Prodigal Daughter mode turned on, so I turned it on and put the 3DS on the charging dock so it could update and I could do other things. Then I watched James Bond? I think. It ended with a sticker billboard in an ultra-conservative part of town that was almost completely covered with gay, lesbian, and trans porn because krystal and a few other neocities and tumblr users had been dumping porn into the procedural generator, and we were all having a great laugh at the expense of the pearl-clutching old church ladies and traditionalist republican men getting porn delivered to them on their community-sourced sticker board that they had intended to use for bible verses and pro-Trump propaganda.

You see a lot about "RETVRN to tradition" on social media these days. Of course it's fascism with a gossamer-thin veil. But like if you try to pronounce "retvrn" like a word, it sounds like "re-tiv-irn". Reminds me of the Swedish Chef a bit actually: "Retvrn der körn-a töø der pøt; in dis fûr di-doo, di-doo børk-børk-børk..."

The last time I saw today's Far Side panel was on Tumblr in 2017. It was a 2-bit bitmap that had probably been scanned with a Xerox machine and posted on someone's Usenet newsgroup in the very early '90s... It's amazing how resonant The Far Side has always been with STEM. Everyone has a fursona and a favourite Far Side panel.

Finally starting to feel like December out here! Looking forward to Christmas in a few weeks 🎅🎄🎀 Wait, what do you mean "it's January"?!

my voice is all soft and it kinda hurts to talk right now. this is not because i'm sick, this is because my mum asked me to read her my bob's burgers telefilm outline, which I did in an approximation of all the character voices. ALL 75 PAGES OF IT. it took me the better part of 1.5 hours to get through it... and it's STILL NOT FINISHED. just imagine how unproduceably long it'll be when it's done... next time, i'm definitely gonna gargle with saltwater the second my throat starts to get dry.

2025 Jan 2: 20:16
I've been working on this Bob's Burgers telefilm outline since 2020. No, I'm not going to be able to sell it, because I don't have an agent and I'm not planning to get one. But the fact of that on its own should not be enough to stop me. I'm FINISHING it this year. It'll probably end up having 172 pages, but I'm finishing it.

I didn't play New Leaf yesterday. I hope they got along all right without me...

A Tesla truck exploded outside a Trump hotel in Las Vegas. Let that be a sign of things to come (ie. the 2 biggest egos in the world pretending to be each other's political allies for any more than 2 months).
