Well, after agonising over it for about a week, I decided to go ahead and just load up Westfold again. Mainly, I kept getting the same Streetpass notification everyday about my gf's model house in the Happy Home Showcase and the only way to clear it was to open New Leaf. It turns out nothing happened except the weeds took over and Leif was freaking out a bit over that. Also, all the furniture I'd put into Re-Tail's consignment area was... still there. Great. It's been there the better part of a year. Isn't ANYONE going to buy my regifted ringside table? Like, EVER?
Well, to be fair, I wasn't always agonising over restarting the game— most of the time, I was playing Terraria. But, seriously, I've spent so much time down the mines recently, I was mumbling about "stupid metal" in bed this morning and my girlfriend woke me up to ask what that was all about, and I was kind of sheepish to explain it was about the Lead Ore in Terraria. Seriously, why even include that? Lead is hella toxic, you think Kaylee needs to be breathing that shit? If she didn't just respawn back in the Guide's House, she'd be dead by now. But, as you'll recall, I did do some worrying about how the town was going to be affected by my prolonged absence. Maybe it just wasn't long enough to have any real effect beyond the weeds, but I didn't notice any change at all, beyond the way the villagers would greet me. Also, the game behaved as though I had been sleeping for that long, messing up my hair. So that cute ponytail she had before is nothing more than a memory. I went to Shampoodle to get something other than that bed-hair and ended up with pigtails again. Appropriate, I guess, seeing as I was wearing my own realspace hair in pigtails at the time.
Also, since it was November at the time, I also was able to see the last of the fall colours on the trees and found some mushrooms on the ground. There's an option to eat the mushrooms, but I know better. Even masters-level mycologists who have written volumes on the subject of mushroom foraging have died from mistaking a Death Cap for a straw mushroom. Only Mario and Luigi get to eat mushrooms.
I think it's time for me to take a few Luma screenshots of my office house and then redecorate at last. Since it's winter now (not officially, but, it's gonna be 12°F outside overnight), I should go ahead with the "Summer backyard" angle. I'm going to have to consult the wiki again to find out which caravans I need to summon to the RV Park to make that work. Outdoor furniture, obviously, but also I know of a lawn flooring texture and some red brick walls. I'll intersperse my Terraria sessions with New Leaf so that I can draw out both for as long as possible. I know I want to make another New Leaf town at some point, but I think I'll do Wild World first. Also, my gf brought her Wii with her, so we can play City Folk and the GCN original at some point too.
