On 14th October, I got 400 followers on my Neocities account! In case you've come in from the greater whole of the internet and are wondering what I'm yammering and jammering on about: my web host, Neocities, is sort of like a cross between Tripod and pre-Elon Twitter, in that there's a small social networking aspect to the host. Logged-in users can follow each other and leave comments on their site updates. I've been trying to remember to observe milestone events like every hundred followers or every 100,000 views or something. Since I now have 400 people following my Neocities profile, and I'm fresh out of interesting stuff to divulge about my website, I've opened my inbox up and let my followers write the content for me! Kinda. Whatever. Anyway, let's answer some questions, shall we?
limovars asks: do u speak french ! :O
🇬🇧 Yeah, not very well and for no particular reason. They offered 3 languages at my high school— French, German, and Spanish— and, because I was an anti-trendsetting rebel, I chose French. For practicality, I should have chosen Spanish.
nicegirlslumber asks: Do you like chocolate ice cream?
I used to, but all the brands we get around here got really bland after COVID happened. Food in general got really bland after COVID happened. And smaller. And more expensive.
adhemara asks: what is the thing you're the more proud of and/or happy with which happened in 2025?
Ouais, limovars m'a déjà demandé ta question premiere :3 Anyway, to answer your 2nd question, I'm really proud of the music I wrote this year. I even got to write some videogame music!
rusty-bytes asks: do you drink coffee? and if so, what's your go-to?
I love coffee! I like the Caribou brand the most, but it's also the most expensive. Cameron's is on sale pretty frequently (even if that's getting expensive now too) and I love their Jamaican blend. And not just because of Chief O'Brien, either!
virtually-isolated asks: You can have any kind of creature, real or from fiction, as a pet/companion. What do you choose?
Since I loved Pokémon Yellow so much as a kid, I'll say Pikachu.
caminus asks: I'd love to know about your music process! what software do you use? also, what are your biggest inspirations?
My process is basically start up the DAW and plunk about on my MIDI keyboard until I hit upon something interesting. I use FL Studio to write music, mostly because everyone else had phased Windows 7 out by the time I started looking into PC-based music composition. Before then, I used either Hydrogen as a Fairlight CMI style step sequencer or my Roland Fantom-X6 to do bigger songs. My main inspirations would definitely have to be Koji Kondo, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Paul Shaffer. When I used the Fantom-X only, I was sort of like Wendy Carlos a bit, experimenting with my synthesiser to see what I could do with it.
vinvy asks: why candy corn?..
Mmm... it's good. Just for reference, candycorn should not be waxy or crumbly. If it's waxy, that means the company was too cheap to make proper fondant and stretched it with food wax. If it's crumbly, then it's gone stale and is only good as ammo for shooting adults dressed up as Harry Potter characters with your slingshot.
soapbubbleseal asks: what's your go-to song at karaoke?
Either "Dead Man's Party" or "No One Lives Forever", both by Oingo Boingo.
teenagegirlboy asks: would you rather infinite bacon but no video games or games, unlimited games.. but no games/ref
I don't eat bacon, so my games are probably safe.
tapeykatt asks: What motivated you to make your own website?
I used to have a website back in high school and I wanted to get back into HTML. Also, Tumblr was causing my long-form writing skills to atrophy, so I needed a place I could write more than 3 sentences about something.
zhongvie asks: favourite part of your website you're most proud of?
The Nintendo 64 Shrine, no question about it.
maybesomething asks: when did you get into cybersecurity/privacy ? what kickstarted it ?
When I registered this website in the first place, it was to publish an emergency dephoning guide because I had just learnt that police were using Google Advertising ID's to pinpoint and arrest people who had attended protests. I realised this could be used against anyone, anywhere, for any reason, at any time, and something inside me just kinda snapped. Before then, though, I was basically the only one who still cared about PRISM and the Five Eyes treaty 6 months after it came out. That was the worst case of state-sponsored de-evolution I've ever seen. Right? 'Cos what happened there was, Ed Snowden comes with all this damning info about how much your searches, and social media accounts, and userdata from your ISP even, was being used to spy on you and make sure you didn't consider breaking the law; and everyone's all shocked and angry and everything for about 3 weeks, and then it all just kinda... vanished. Nobody cared anymore. Constant surveillance got folded into the advertising schemes of the corporate feudal state and now it's just an accepted part of life. Ew! Fuck all of that!
astrossoundhell asks: What colour is your imaginary horse? Do you have a favourite out of synthesisers with an analog sound tract? (Your sampler/rompler preferences are clear :D)
My imaginary horse's name is Cinnamon, and she is brown. When it comes to analogue synths and the people who play them, Mark Mothersbaugh performs miracles with a standard minimoog. I've heard some of your stuff, too; I think Mark would be envious of your custom-built synths considering how much into circuitbent stuff he was for a few years.
riomccloud asks: What's your greatest personal achievement?
Admitting to myself that I was transgender and then getting my referral and my first regular dose of feminising HRT. It changed my entire world and opened up so many doors that I had been slamming shut as a masc-presenting person. It's allowed me to know the joy of smelling a flower, understand femininity, and meet one of the best friends I've ever had. No matter what the regime does to me, I have experienced true happiness. No matter how loudly they scream their epithets or how many people they kill with their assault rifles from their hotel windows, they will never be happy.
polydactica asks: What are the weirdest things that you associate with each other? The association could be very obscure to others, but very meaningful to yourself.
Whenever I receive a superficial injury, in particular a slap or pulled hair, anywhere on my person, I smell hairspray and become reminded of an old department store in my hometown's suburban mall that I went to with my mum and gran when I was really little. I have no idea how these stimuli got connected to each other, but here we are.
alishere asks: What would be the most dysfunctional trek crew you could build using the main casts of each series?
Let's see here...
Is that dysfunctional? Or is it just my dream crew on my dream ship? We report, you decide.
No one asked: "Why do you list the VST instruments that you use in your songs? Aren't you afraid someone's gonna rip them off?"
I list my instruments for 2 reasons. First, it's really cool. It's sort of inspired by the Videogame sample sources spreadsheet; you can get driven to tears by a song like the Staff Roll Theme from Ocarina of Time, then you can go onto a website and see what instrument sounds actually made you cry. So, like, you start crying over "Get To You", then you can click through to a page that tells the strings ensemble that sent you over the edge was the Live! Marcato Strings from the Yamaha Tyros4.
The other reason is related to generative AI. I don't want you to come onto my website, listen to an orchestral arrangement of "That's Good" by Devo, and think "oh that was just ChatGPT". This is not TikTok, and you did not just get screwed over by an AI-generated funk arrangement of "Back in Black". Listing the VST instruments I used is a necessary step in proving that I didn't just go to whatever.ai and punch up "write me synthpop song in the combined styles of Devo, Men Without Hats, and Kraftwerk". While certainly Logic Pro and Pro Tools have AI integration now that can write music with whatever VSTi's are loaded into memory, I'm using FL Studio v.20 on Windows 7, so I still write my own music.
As for ripping my work off, I'm not worried about that at all. If someone wants to try and reproduce my work, they need a starting point that isn't generative AI.
That was fun. I'm always glad to connect with my followers, it makes it more personal than what you would get on brand-name social media I think. Anyway, we'll be back with more questions at the 500 followers spectacular (probably), but now back to our regularly-scheduled programming.
