"Oh, you're exaggerating." Am I? Concentration camps have been established in Florida, Texas, Nebraska, and probably every other state with a Republican governor. Sounds Nazi-like to me. Trump's military takeover of Venezuela sounds eerily familiar to Hitler's annexation of the Sudetenland. Seems pretty Nazi-like. Random people are being rounded up and deported based upon a single personal trait. Anyone who dissents is arrested or killed. ICE has the power of judge, jury, and executioner. Sounds pretty fucking Nazi-like to me. And that's even before we consider all the ICE agents who have Nazi iconography tattooed onto them.

Riza and I watched Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Nazi Face-Melting Machine last night, and tonight we're going to have pizza and watch Twister (or Fudgy Science and Unrealistic Rivalries). Twister is what got me into meteorology in the first place; at first because of stormchasing, later because I realised how inaccurate the film's science was. James Spann, Jamie Simpson, and Ryan Vaughan brought me the rest of the way, and now, for some reason, I'm better at interpreting Doppler radar data than the actual AMS-certified TV meteorologists. It was fun listening to all the re-used Star Wars sounds in Indiana Jones, including 3 of the 6 Wilhelm screams (scream 1, scream 4 (the famous one), and scream 6). Plus, Nazis died in torturous, bloody, painful ways, which is always a good time. All Nazis should experience unearthly paralysing agony for their last few seconds on earth tbh.

the fact that jk rowling came up in the epstein files is pretty hilarious tbh. like her transphobic ass was inviting jeffery to events and shit AFTER he was found guilty of sex crimes. like she sought him out specifically because he was human scum lmao

Riza and I were sleeping very soundly this morning, up until the point a member of Podisus maculiventris decides to start attacking the ceiling light. For reference, P. maculiventris is a spined soldier bug; completely harmless unless one happens to be a European corn borer (O. nubilalis). It's odd to see them at this time of year and, while it was quite active for about 7 minutes, eventually it landed on its back inside the lampshade, struggled about for a bit, then stopped moving. I think it's dead now 'cos it's still up there. Either that or it decided this was as good a place as any to spend the rest of the winter.
I kind of prefer using the binomial name for bugs and spiders because, for some reason, ever since about August of 2023 (gee, I wonder what could have happened), I stopped seeing just "bugs" and "spiders" and started to realise that they all have their own character traits and names and stuff. So, it's not just "ew, a bug!" or "eek, a spider!" now. They're Podisus maculiventris and Platycryptus undatus. I'm not trying to look like a genius, just acknowledging that there's more than 1 kind of tiny little guy who gets into your house occasionally.
Incidentally, if you're into spiders (ie. not an arachnophobe), the Wikipedia picture for genus Platycryptus is inexcusably cute. Like, that's a kitty cat. If you could pet that little spider, she'd probably start purring //(.:w:.)\\

well that was an interesting experiment, wasn't it? riza and i installed not64 on her wii and... well... let's just say that computers do a better job emulating nintendo 64. i don't know about the wii u, but i'm going to stop recommending n64 emulation on wii now. I'm not going to change any of the existing content on the site tho, so if you see me talk about playing n64 games on wii, just ignore it.
specifically what doesn't work? well, GOLDENEYE for a start. you know, the big one. that doesn't run reliably at all. banjo-kazooie is fine, banjo-tooie is not. 007 TWINE runs ok if not for a bit of artefacting on certain floor textures. also, there's no point in playing the EAD-developed games on emulator because you could just install the DLC VC versions and be better off.

Chat, I'm sorry, but like. Trump said that the phone call with Tim Walz was "surprisingly productive" and that they're on "the same wavelength". And like, I've seen Deep Space Nine. That has such "Sisko talking to Weyoun in the DS9 wardroom" vibes to it.
If you're one of today's lucky 100.000, at the end of series 5, Sisko has the entrance to the wormhole mined and Weyoun comes to the station with a bunch of Jem'hadar to convince him to stop. They go to the wardroom and have what appears to be a very mutually-reassuring talk and, you expect because you've been watching Star Trek that that's gonna be the end of the Dominion arc. But in the very next scene, Sisko says "they're going to attack". And sure enough, they do.
All this business with a "Border Czar" is just another smokescreen. Something big and very, very bad is going to happen very soon. Like, how can it not? Unless Tim Walz caved or Trump paid him off or something, that phone call was a diversion.
ATTENTION, DATAHOARDERS: start saving news articles about the border czar, the Minneapolis executions, and Trump's and Walz' handling of this situation. Also start saving the most recent trustworthy edit to the Wikipedia articles on the executions and as many involved persons as you have space for. Shit's going down and it's going down soon.

I hate how icelist.is is simultaneously everything the anti-fascist movement could ever hope for and the biggest honeypot-sounding fraud a tech-savvy republican bootlicker could ever make. I don't know which it is, but without my VPN right now, I am NOT going to find that out. You just know that something like that, honeypot or not, is going to be monitored.
But yeah. I hope it's common sense that you should not go there without being connected to a multi-hop VPN. "Oh, I'll use Tor." Nope, the US Navy developed it and all exit points are known to the intelligence community. "I'll use Brave." Nope, any Chromium-based browser is an extreme vulnerability in anti-fascism, given its developer (ie. Google) is a known fascist player. Whether or not the site is a fraud, set up by the Trump regime to catch dissenters, use your basic common sense. Become extremely paranoid about this site and any others that purport to expose the identities of ICE agents.

See? I knew it. I doubted it for a moment, but I knew the Greenland thing was just a smokescreen. A way to disrupt the news cycle and grab the headlines again for the 3285th day in a row. An attempt to declare American military might that just ended up cracking the ice, making Europe rethink its alliance with the US. A way to strongarm another continent into giving America everything it wants that just ended up making Europe institute its own set of retaliatory tariffs. A publicity stunt gone bad. That's all it is and all it ever was.

In the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, there's going to be wind-chill values of -35° to -45° fahrenheit starting on Thursday. It's already pretty cold and snowing there, but it's going to get worse, much worse.
Protesters: be sure to wear lots of layers and at least 2 face coverings. 2 pairs of gloves wouldn't hurt either. Basically, do what the pigs do and cover all your exposed skin. Those with training should definitely bring first-aid supplies and be prepared to treat hypothermia and frostbite.
ICE agents: you now get to experience just what it means to be a foot soldier of the Trump regime. Expect no accommodations for the bitter cold, either from the community or your employer. To the community, you are a pariah; undesirable, unwanted, and unwelcome. To your employer, you are a number in a chart; nothing more than a robot deployed to advance an authoritarian agenda. You're cheaply replaced and easy to discard in case a scapegoat is needed. I hope the bitter Canada-adjacent winter makes you question your career choices.

Just 6 months ago, I was sort of thinking that Riza was being overly-cautious, stockpiling dry goods in case the whole "fascist dictatorship" thing came to the head. "Oh, there's not going to be a civil war, Trump is going to die of being old before he can do anything, besides which the money just isn't there," I said back then. Well, hey. It turns out I was 100% WRONG about everything. Now we're both working on assembling a stockpile, the likes of which I haven't seen since my gran's church told her the rapture would be coming and all the world's governments would descend into chaos back in the late '90s. This time though, unlike gran's church, there actually is a genuine cause for worry. So, no. I do not begrudge my beloved a single extra 2-pound bag of dry pinto beans. We NEED every single one we can get our hands on. Because, yeah, we genuinely are fucked. Unless Trump's sabre-rattling with Denmark kicks a few dozen asses into gear in the legislative branch and they grow a pair about removing him from office in irons at gunpoint, everyone is so royally screwed that there is no word to describe how screwed we are.

so the greenland thing WASNT a smokescreen after all? i dont know if im convinced. trump still has a puppet government in venezuela, the navy and air force are still capturing venezuelan oil tankers, the epstein files are still a thing, and now there's citizen militias taking up arms against ICE in minnesota. at the same time, i cant really ignore the fact that several NATO signatories have scrambled real live actual military personnel to greenland to defend it against nazi america. if it really is just misdirection, then trump seriously is willing to risk nuclear stalemate over kayfabe.

the whole country might be falling apart around me, but at least my happy home showcase is completely full. new streetpasses have to overwrite older ones now. i have riza's house marked as a favourite though, so it won't go anywhere. she's gonna be at west 12 until the day my 3DS wont turn on anymore.

So, my 3DS's circle pad grip came off a while ago. I think as long ago as February 2024. Anyway, the edges of the grip always stood a little proud of the sides of the touchscreen housing, which meant it would leave a circular smudge spot on the top screen when it was folded. I didn't throw the grip away, I tried a couple different glues to get it to stick down again until I discovered that nothing can stick silicone to HDPE, then I just either loosely left it on the circle pad (meaning it would often stick to my thumb and come off at inconvenient moments) or I would leave it in my carrying case.
When I gave my 2DS to Riza, one of the first things that happened was she took the grip off her circle pad because I told her how unreliable they are. A couple days ago, we decided to switch them around: she put my 3DS grip on her 2DS and I put her 2DS grip on my 3DS.
All problems solved.
The design flaw that makes the grip come off the circle pad on both consoles was completely sidestepped by using opposite grips. The 2DS grip not only fits the 3DS's circle pad into its internal ridges (thereby not requiring adhesive at all), it also stands flush with the touchscreen, meaning it no longer leaves a ring on the top screen! And the 2DS's circle pad is a bit larger than the 3DS's, allowing the older grip to actually grip in the manner that R&E probably intended.
That's such a Nintendo move, though. Design a faulty product, then design a completely new product to overcome the inherent flaws of the old one while introducing a new set of flaws, and both can be overcome by using parts from the other products.

I don't know about anyone else, but I for one am absolutely fucking terrified of ICE right now. The federal government has granted this agency absolute power over who may live and who will die, analytical AI systems are being used not only to identify protestors but also to detect dissent, people who go into Alligator Auschwitz quite often vanish there, the Supreme Court has allowed ICE to use racism and confirmation bias as a valid decisionmaking process, orders from lower courts to cease operations and release prisoners are ignored out of hand, and they are currently on track to become the single-wealthiest agency in the entire US political machine. People have made jokes and memes about this to the point nobody takes it seriously anymore, but ICE very much is on equal footing with the Gestapo at this stage. You can say it: the Trump government are Nazis. You can say it because it's true.
2026 January 7: 22:43
Ok. So, uh, let me get this straight. Minnesota governor, Tim Walz, has teased mobilising the Minnesota National Guard to oppose Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Like, I'm ALL FOR opposing Trump and holding ICE agents accountable for their violent actions, but, like.
Let me put this in simpler language... one heavily armed military force is going to meet another heavily armed military force? In a situation where they may potentially do battle?
Honey, that's a civil war. We're talking about a civil war. If Minnesota goes to oppose Trump, then other states are going to mobilise in support of Trump. Governor Walz, you are talking about instigating a civil war.

The last Streetpass I get before I go to bed last night is a random guy in California telling me "Jesus saves". I get up, I have breakfast, I open my 3DS and renew my NetPass token, I instantly receive a random French dude in my Streetpass plaza who wants to clop. Streetpass was a mistake.
2026 January 4: 11:30
Welp, Terraria obsession over. Tomodachi Life obsession now in progress.
2026 January 4: 01:03
At this stage, I'm reasonably sure that Nintendo intends to return 3DS and DS functionality to the Switch 2 by making a touchscreen controller that costs $250. You'll also probably have to subscribe to an additional tier on Nintendo Classics to unlock DS games, and another tier beyond that to get 3DS games. But, they'll only release like 12 games altogether and 4 of those will get pulled for nonspecific reasons.
2026 January 1: 23:33
i'm actually pretty surprised at how well netpass works. like, i installed it this afternoon and i already had 3 new houses in the happy home showcase, 10 miis in the streetpass plaza, and 9 imports in tomodachi life. it really makes me feel less isolated, knowing there are this many people with jailbroken 3DSes. riza's had enough visitors in her streetpass plaza that she's been playing minigames there all night so far! apart from that though, i really need to start looking into developing my new leaf house a bit more... those visitors from germany and spain really showed me that i'm not paying enough attention to my own living space.

sorry i didn't get a snapshot of the NYE countdown in animal crossing new leaf. riza and i were spending some quality time together :3c
